As usual, we flew into Chicago and stayed at my best friend's (Daphne) home. We did hot pot the night we arrived. It was fun doing hot pot. Eren, Daphne and Huseyin's son, is as cute as ever. Eren has started to talk every now and then. I am always amazed by the fact that kids at Eren's age can easily understand different languages. Since Daphne is from China and Huseyin from Turkey, Eren could understand both Chinese and Turkish. He also understands English as he started school second half of this year.
After saying goodbye to Daphne, Huseyin and Eren, we drove back to Indiana and met Dave's family at Mandarin House for dinner. Except for the appetizer, the food there was pretty authentic. We set off to Grandma Theobald's home for the Theobald's family get-together the very next day. It snowed a little bit on the way there. Grandma Theobald put together a big dinner for all of us. It was delicious, and the home-made noodle and the roasted chicken in particular. The food was so yummy that I could not help going back for the second plate.
Since we were not able to get hold of Dave's friends whom we planned to meet, we decided to go to Notre Dame for a visit. Except the new art building, no big changes took place since I graduated in '04. We drove by No 21 Fischer Graduate Residence, where I used to live, lit a candle at Grotto and visited Basilica. The campus is beautiful. That evening we had Christmas Eve dinner, exchanged gifts and went to Church. I like the food prepared by Sharon, Dave's mom.
The Rensbergers got together on Christmas day. I was so glad to see Grandma Rensberger doing very well. After all, it was the first Christmas after Grandpa Rensberger passed away. There was a lot of delicious food on the table. No wonder people always say this is the most fatty season of the year.
On the 26th, we came back to Boston.
