Pictures of the place that will soon be "home".

We went to the condo on Saturday to take measurements and some pictures. Our unit is the one right in the middle of the picture on the left. The picture in the middle pretty much shows the whole place (except for the bedroom, which is off to the right). The loft is big enough to serve as a "den" for us, and an extra bedroom when people visit. The last picture in the set below is the view from the loft. It's hard to tell from this picture, but you can see the Boston city skyline through the window.

This is the kitchen and bathroom. It looks like most of the new condos being built these days, so there's nothing terribly special about it, but everything's shiny and new, which should be nice.

It was a typical cloudy New England March day, so the outdoor pictures don't exactly bring to mind a sunny day at the beach, but a grey day on the coast can be nice too. Our private balcony is 6'x8', which isn't huge, but big enough to put a small table out so that we can eat outside. The whole public beach is 3.8 miles long, which makes it one of the largest public beaches on the east coast (well, the northeast anyway). Since the stretch of the beach in front of our place is now a residential area, they've designated it a "quiet zone" at night. This is a new law, and it remains to be seen how well it will be enforced.

It looks so great--congrats again. Love the high ceilings! =) When do you move in?

Heather,

We're actually trying to figure out how to make the most of the high ceilings and walls. One thing I want to do is put high bookshelves in the loft (the back wall there is 11 1/2 feet high). These seem to be sort of hard to find. If you know of any libraries that are replacing their stacks, please let me know. It might even be worth it if they had to be shipped halfway across the country.

We're closing on the 4th of April, so we'll start moving in gradually over the rest of the month.

I was just looking at your blog... glad your trip to the ER turned out to be nothing serious. Get some rest!

Good luck with the moving!
Are you going to have to move any beds or desks up that spiral staircase? Yikes.

Hey Shawn,

That's a good question. I don't think anything of any significant size is going to fit through the spiral staircase, so we'll probably have to figure out a way to hoist stuff up over the banister into the loft. We may have to try to rent one of those little mobile elevator things that they use to move things in through windows in old apartment buildings. We're really just planning to put a futon, some shelves, and maybe a desk up there, so of course that stuff can be disassembled. Still... may be a bit tricky. Let me know if you have any ideas! We both have our current apartments until the end of April, though, so we have some time to figure this sort of stuff out.
